Review and Design of the Water Transmission Project from the Downstream of the Dam to Site A of the Seeb Village
Introduction
As part of this project, route selection studies, transmission line design, storage reservoirs, and pumping stations are being implemented to supply water to the Seebland Tourism and Recreational Complex. The project utilizes 2 million cubic meters of water annually from the reservoir behind Namrood Dam, with a continuous flow rate of 100 liters per second.
One of the main technical challenges is the location of Namrood Dam behind mountain ranges overlooking Seeb Village, creating an elevation difference of approximately 1,100 meters. Additional difficulties include the lack of proper access roads, the mountainous terrain, harsh climate conditions, freezing temperatures, and the complexity of water intake from the dam.
To overcome these issues, six pumping stations have been designed, each with an approximate head of 200 meters. In addition to overcoming the static elevation difference, they will also compensate for energy losses along the pipeline. The water released from the dam will be conveyed through a pressurized pipeline to the intake reservoir of the first pumping station, located at elevation 1,972 meters.
The elevation difference between the first pumping station and the highest point of the route at the cable car location, where a 5,000-liter storage tank has been constructed at an elevation of 3,040 meters, is approximately 1,070 meters. This elevation is to be overcome by the operation of the six designated pumping stations.
Both pumping stations are interconnected via a pipeline. Depending on the feasible burial depth and the operating pressure exerted on the pipes, high-strength polyethylene pipes have been used in certain sections, while steel pipes have been utilized in others. The pumps used in this project are BPN374 models, equipped with electric motors ranging from 92 to 130 kW, arranged in configurations of 2+1 and 1+1.
