Design and Supervision on Development of Aprin dry port
Introduction
Aprin Dry Port is located on more than 700 hectares of land, 20 kilometers from Tehran city in the Islamshahr area, within the boundaries of the country's central railway station. This dry port is strategically positioned at the intersection of the country's north-south and east-west railway lines in terms of rail accessibility, and is situated near the Azadegan and Tehran-Saveh highways in terms of road access. Due to its unique transportation position, this port has the potential to become the country's largest logistics center. With the activation of Aprin Dry Port and the commencement of operations as an intermodal transport terminal, utilizing scheduled trains that connect this station to the farthest points of the country through railway lines, we will witness facilitated access for manufacturing plants located in industrial zones in Tehran, Markazi, Alborz, Saveh provinces, and neighboring provinces to imported goods, particularly raw materials needed, as well as the shipment of their manufactured goods not only to other parts of the country but also their export abroad. Shahid Rajaee Port handles approximately 90% of the country's container operations, with about 55% of containers related to Tehran Province. The absence of an efficient rail transport system and scheduled trains between Shahid Rajaee Port and Tehran Province that could assure cargo owners of receiving their goods within a reasonable timeframe in Tehran has resulted in rail transport's share being less than 10%, while more than 90% is transported via road freight. Establishing a dry port within Tehran city limits and providing appropriate services for utilizing railway lines and trains instead of road networks and road freight fleets to cargo owners will increase the share of rail transport in cargo movement between southern ports and Tehran Province. This will result in a significant reduction in fuel consumption in the country and considerable savings in the country's total energy consumption. Additionally, increased rail transport will lead to reduced air pollution, significant reduction in traffic accidents and incidents, and decreased damage to the country's road network. The Pars Container Terminal, which is under construction at Aprin Dry Port through joint investment by Iranian and foreign companies, will be the first terminal of this dry port. The Pars Container Terminal will be equipped with a 900-meter rail yard with the capability of simultaneously unloading 5 trains. The capacity of this terminal in the final phase, utilizing two Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes, will reach 800,000 TEU per year. At the start of operations, loading/unloading operations will be performed with reach stackers, and after three years, when the terminal's performance reaches 50,000 TEU per year, one RMG crane will be used for loading/unloading. The capacity of this terminal in the first implementation phase will be approximately 450,000 TEU per year. The implementation operations of the first phase of this project began in July 2021 and are now operational.
