Detailed planning studies for the river training of the Hadish River within the Payambar-e Azam Township area, Bandar Abbas
Introduction
The Hadish River is located in the western part of Bandar Abbas, adjacent to the important Shahid Beheshti Port, and is connected to the Persian Gulf through the Hadish Estuary (Khor-e Hadish). Given that the northern part of this river, upstream of Bandar Abbas, experiences frequent and relatively severe floods—and considering the presence of the railway station and densely populated residential complexes in the area—while the southern part is affected by daily tidal flows, the implementation of a flood control and river training plan has been jointly prioritized by the Hormozgan Regional Water Company and the Hormozgan Roads and Urban Development Administration. In addition, due to the area's tourism and environmental potential, the beautification and tourism development of the Hadish River–Estuary has also attracted serious attention from provincial authorities. The main objectives of this project include the following:
- Flood risk mitigation, river training, and protection of the riverbed and riparian lands of the Hadish River.
- Protection of river water quality through controlling and preventing the inflow of pollutants and reducing the level of contamination entering the river.
- Enhancement of the region’s tourism potential and promotion of its social, cultural, and economic dimensions.
- Preservation of the Hadish River landscape against urban sprawl, while adapting and strengthening it in line with the city’s population growth.
- Development of an ecotourism-oriented recreational area at both city and provincial scales.
- Physical enhancement of the river landscape by utilizing the existing site potentials.
- Creation of a memorable and engaging riverside landscape for the citizens.
