Introduction
Extensive changes in the maritime transport sector, shifts in the world’s economic poles, evolving supply and demand patterns for port services, the emergence of new requirements and obligations, along with the intensifying global port competition and technological advancements, necessitate proactive policy-making and strategic roadmapping for the future development of ports. The review and update of port master plans serve as the roadmap to ensure that ports can respond to these dynamics. The key objectives of updating a port master plan can be summarized as follows:
- Enabling the port to adapt to technological changes, evolving cargo trends, and regulatory frameworks in order to remain competitive with other ports
- Ensuring port development in compliance with national and international standards and regulations
