Design of the International Passenger and Maritime Tourism Terminal' Gate

Introduction

Bushehr International Passenger and Maritime Tourism Terminal, as the gateway for sea travel and tourism in this key southern port, has been redesigned and modernized in recent years with a contemporary approach. The primary objective of the project has been to enhance service quality, improve passenger comfort and safety, and create a modern and welcoming space for both domestic and international tourists. In this regard, Phase I and II studies for major rehabilitation and refurbishment of the terminal buildings and facilities were entrusted to Sazeh Pardazi Iran Consulting Engineers. These studies are included:

  • Reorganization of the terminal site, pedestrian and vehicular circulation, parking areas, and landscaping
  • Design of the main entrance gate and guardhouse
  • Renovation and refurbishment plans for the interior spaces and external façade of the existing passenger hall
  • Design of required service and utility buildings
Considering the new requirements of the client, as well as modifications to the terminal site—including the construction of new berths and improper utilization of some facilities—the remaining scope from previous studies required revision and adjustment. Accordingly, in 2025, the design and rehabilitation studies for the entrance and exit gates of the Bushehr International Passenger and Maritime Tourism Terminal (the subject of this contract) were assigned to Sazeh Pardazi Iran Consulting Engineers. The aim of these studies is to improve aesthetics, ensure greater comfort for passengers and tourists—especially during peak travel seasons such as Nowruz—and incorporate elements of traditional and vernacular architecture of the region into the design. With this approach, the remaining scope of the earlier studies will be redesigned to align with the current operational and contextual conditions. The present studies, therefore, will generally include the following:
  • Preparation and redesign of site development plans (grading, leveling, and stormwater drainage) considering existing works and current/future site conditions (including the construction of the western boundary wall)
  • Updating of previous pedestrian and vehicular pavement design within the terminal site
  • Evaluation of existing utility infrastructure and, where required, redesign of earlier studies
  • Design of the new western boundary wall and assessment/redesign of the existing eastern boundary wall if necessary
  • Landscaping and beautification of the terminal site (street furniture, structures, and required architectural elements) to enhance comfort for passengers and tourists
Revision of the main entrance gate and guardhouse design, taking into account climatic conditions and the local architectural identity
